40% U.S. Women have Sexual Dysfunction

Sexual problems associated with PERSONAL DISTRESS were much less common, although reported by approximately 12% of women.

Personal distress
The age-adjusted prevalence of sexually related personal distress (22.2%) was comparable to the prevalence of marked sexual distress of 22.8% from a U.S. national sample. [5]

This is a review of a new study published in November 2008 in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Jan Shifren,MD Reproductive Endocrinologist of Massachusetts General Hosptial

WHAT ARE
FEMALE SEXUAL DYSFUNCTIONS
Female sexual dysfunction is a term used to describe various sexual problems, such as
  • low desire or interest,
  • diminished arousal,
  • orgasmic difficulties, and
  • dyspareunia.

Female sexual dysfunction is considered common, with a widely quoted prevalence estimate of 43% from the U.S. National Health and Social Life Survey [4] and similar estimates from other large, population-based surveys in the United States[5] [6] and the United Kingdom[7] [8].

TO TOP
In elderly men as age increases distress associated with sexual problem is high. In contrast to this, the research team found that though sexual problems were greatest in elderly women, consequent distress due to the problems was least prevalent in the elderly women.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
on Female sexual Dysfunctions associated with female distress
1
One important factor to be noted is that sexual problems and distress were based on self-reported information without any clinical evaluation.
2
Only 63% women chose to respond. They may be more conscious about their problems.
37% did not participate in the study about whom nothing can be said.
3
Data provided by this survey are unable to address the reason for this finding.

FEMALE SEXUAL PROBLEMS
CAUSING DISTRESS
WHAT DOES THE RESEARCH CONCLUDE

The results of this study show that sexual problems associated with personal distress occur in about 12% of adult U.S. women, which is much less common than previously published and widely quoted prevalence estimates of about 40% for sexual problems (with unknown presence of distress).

TO TOP
Still, the proportion of women with distressing sexual problems is not trivial, particularly for women at mid life, because
one in eight women aged 45-64 years
had distress associated with desire problems and about
one in 15 with arousal and orgasm problems
.
An accurate estimate of prevalence and identification of correlates of distressing female sexual problems has important implications for the care of women. Clinicians assessing women with sexual problems should be certain to evaluate the level of distress associated with such problems.

50 - 60 yrs distress 13%
13 % of women between 50 years and 60 years of age have desire problems causing distress in the present study. This is found to be same as in another study (WISHes)[12] where the distress is 13% in U.S. women as well as 13% in European women.

TO TOP
Desire Dysfunction Causing Distress

Distressing desire problem highest in 35-64 years.
In married women it is two times more than in single women, but higher in women without a current partner.
Post menopausal women have 20% more problems than pre menopausal women.

Distressing problems of desire were definitely more in women who had the following medical conditions:
  • Current Depression
  • Thyroid Problems
  • Anxiety
  • Urinary Incontinence

TO TOP
Arousal Dysfunction Causing Distress

Medical conditions related to increased odds of arousal problems were
  • thyroid problems,
  • arthritis,
  • anxiety,
  • urinary incontinence, and
  • inflammatory or irritable bowel disease.

TO TOP
Orgasm Dysfunction Causing Distress

Medical conditions related to a higher odds of orgasm problems with associated distress included
  • depression [13]
  • worsening health status
  • thyroid problems,
  • arthritis,
  • anxiety, and
  • urinary incontinence.
Orgasm problems were 40 % more likely in women with lower education
and also in single (never married) women
compared with divorced, widowed, or separated women.
Unlike desire and arousal problems, distressing orgasm problems were less likely in married women and women without a current partner

Compared with premenopause, only surgical postmenopause was associated with orgasm problems (odds ratio 1.34).

TO TOP
No Distress

Distress causing problems were not correlated with
  • number of children,
  • taking contraceptives or hormone therapy, and
  • taking medication to lower high blood pressure or high cholesterol
  • heart disease
  • diabetes [14], [15]

Lubrication Problem causing Distress

Lubrication Problem
Comparing with other studies it can be said that age-related increase in lubrication problems is well documented.

TO TOP

Women with depression are twice more likely to have distress compared to women without depression. [13]

Jan Shifren's survey is remarkable for three reasons,

1. Large total number of females and wide age range of women.
2. Personal Distress due to Female sexual dysfunctions are covered
3. Most recent among similar studies.

TO TOP
Current diagnostic guidelines from the American Psychiatric Association[9] and Food and Drug Administration[10] require personal distress as part of the diagnostic criteria for dysfunction.
Even the American Urological Association Foundation emphasizes the clinical importance of distress in its revised definitions of sexual disorders.[11]

METHODS:

The 31,581 female respondents aged 18 years and older were from 50,002 households sampled from a national research panel representative of U.S. women. Correlates of each distressing sexual problem were evaluated using multiple logistic regression techniques.

Mural of Chandragupta Maurya's counsil [2] [1]Chanakya's attitude towards women in 250 - 283 BC

The court of Chandragupta Maurya, especially Chanakya, played an important part in the foundation and governance of the Maurya dynasty [3].

Two books are attributed to Chanakya: Arthashastra [10] and Nitishastra which is also known as Chanakya Niti. The Arthashastra discusses monetary  [9] and fiscal [8] policies, welfare, [7]  international relations  [6], and war strategies [5]  in detail. Nitishastra is a treatise on the ideal way of life, and shows Chanakya's in depth study of the Indian way of life. [4]

Brief Introduction
on
Women life and Chanakya
by Dr. Ashok Koparday
WOMEN LIFE
Advocates of feminism [10] and gender equality [9] will find this article thought provoking.
When we talk to men and women about womens's rights, gender equality, a paradox crosses my mind. It is about women, how they treat other women. Women at work who are educated, earning, even today have to succumb to traditional pressures of gender inequality enforced by women (mother in law syndrome).
Women willingly kill female fetus.
It is not just women, but men too, work for women's rights [8] and enforcing gender equality. Gender inequality has been existing for centuries, throughout history and exists even now all over world.
Is women life not human life?
Have you wondered about women life before Christ?
Hallmark of human dignity is women being treated with respect.
What about protecting women?
Here you will find views of Chanakya who lived in century 350 - 283 BC. They are applicable even today. Chanakya was Professor at Takshashila University [7] in India.

CHANAKYA [1]
If there lived an undisputed Management Guru, it is Chanakya of India. Chanakya, maestro Administrator, Leader maker, Ace player and Teacher of Human Interrelationship Skills himself actually planned and executed mind boggling strategies in his life time in India. His empowering treatises, well known as the Chanakya Niti, Kautilya's Arthashastra, are thus backed by real life demo.  Kautilya's Arhtashastra are treasure troves for Corporates. Chanakya's Best Seller Non Fiction Books (treatises) can empower CEO's, or those aspiring to be CEO's, in designing and using crafty stategeies. Kautilya's Shastra [sanskrit word meaning science] are useful even today to Politicians, Senior Managers, and People like us. This revolutionary thinker, philosopher with his sound basis of Interpersonal Dyanamics has given tricks and tips that appear Machiavellian [13] and are useful to people in all walks of life. IMPORTANCE OF RESPECTING AND PROTECTING OUR WOMEN
-         Radhakrishnan 'Chanakya' Pillai
(This weekly column will bring out the relevance of Kautilya's Arthashastra[3] in today's corporate world)
Bhishma, the warrior hero of Mahabharata [2], had once advised Yudhishtira: "A society that does not respect women will perish." It was this lack of respect towards the fairer sex that caused the two great wars in our Hindu epics[4] the 18-day battle in Mahabharata itself after Draupati was humiliated in front of all men and, in Ramayana [5], the war in Lanka when Sita[6] was kidnapped and taken there by Ravana [6].

Even Chanakya refers to the priority women should enjoy in any emergency: "From a dangerous situation he should move away with effort, after removing the women-flock" (7.5.46).

In other words, even when one has to run away from a disaster or a dangerous situation – he should do so only after rescuing women. You may ask: Where is the need for such lessons when there's so much gender equality [7]?
Well, ask your own female friends and relatives whether they think equality has come in totally, or harassment towards them has ended completely.

Base your own decision on their answer. And if you believe a change in mindsets is a must, read on to see how we can respect and protect women in our daily lives:

1) IN OUR WORK PLACES

Today, the number of working women has increased in all areas. Be it in the field of business, education or civil services.

All of us have to interact with women. Remember that men and women think differently. It's a basic psychological difference.

When men and women work on a common project together, they bring in different perspectives. Now if you are the boss, see to it that there is a gender mix in every project. If you are just an employee, inculcate not only a respect towards women but also a receptiveness to their point of views.

2) AT OUR HOMES

While a house is incomplete without a lady, the women in our family also have talents that need to be given wings.

Identify it and give freedom to explore whether it's our daughter, wife, sister or mother.

3) AS A NATION

Even though women have proved themselves in every field, we still have a long way to go. Just look at the amount female infanticides still taking place, a low girl literacy, prevailing practice of dowry, etc.

No social work can be complete till women are empowered. We refer to our country as "Mother India", but hardly allow her to have any daughters.

Swami Vivekananda [14] had rightly said:

"Educate the girl child and the nation will awaken."

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
Most are harmless "functional” or "physiologic" cysts.
How will I know if I have ovarian cysts

Multiple cysts are one hallmark of PCOS. PCOS
What can ovarian cyst cause?
Ovarian Cysts and Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrome due to hormonal disruptions result in
persistent acne,
excessive body hair,
thinning scalp hair,
infertility,
obesity,
increased risk of diabetes,
cardiovascular disease,
uterine cancer or
breast cancer.

Ovarian cysts can cause discomfort during intercourse. They may
bleed,
rupture, or twist the ovary, causing
significant pelvic pain.
Sudden or severe pelvic pain, especially with vomiting or a fever, is a medical emergency

TREATMENT WITH MEDICINES

Treating endometriosis with medicines has definite limitations. Medication usually controls mild or moderate pain and may eliminate small patches of the disease. But large chocolate cysts in the ovary are less likely to respond, and drugs cannot remove scar tissue. This is why surgery may be needed to improve fertility by removing adhesion, lesions, nodules or endometriomas.
As described earlier, laparoscopy can be used as a therapeutic tool. For example, fluid can be drained ; adhesion freed; and patches of endometriosis destroyed using a laser or electrical current. Even large endometriomas can be removed through the laparoscope by a skilled surgeon, so that today most cases can be successfully treated through the laparoscope. Open surgery (laparotomy) is needed only very rarely.

Some ovarian cysts can become cancerous. These are all rare cancers

VAGINAL DOUCHING

VAGINAL DOUCHING
1. First thing is not to panic
2. You need to take your daughter to Gynecologist.
3. Just a finger inside the vagina (the place from where periods come)
can do the cleaning. Wash with water. Soap/Cream/Gel is not to be used.
4. Even if you do nothing it will come out during periods.
5. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or issues.

increased size of breast in boys

Your Question
Doctor's Reply

"Hello,
I am suffering from gynaecomastia. Its just that my chest is not well toned.Online thre is a medicine named gynexin wich helps reduce chest fat.I dnt want 2 undergo xpensive surgery ,so pls can u see d ingredients n let me kno whtr its safe 2 consume it or not"
Doctor's reply:
Please DO NOT consume gnexin, or any other medicine or undergo surgery.

You must be a teenager, who is feeling extremely embarrassed and disturbed having noticed that your chest does not look like that of other boys. Your chest near the breast region is soft and prominent and you are scared that you will look like girl. You are so conscious of this enlargement that you do not dare to change clothes in front of others. You are overwhelmingly ashamed. Others will laugh at you or tease you if they see is a worry that is associated with the continuous worry that you look like female and are not masculine.

Just as two human faces are not alike the chest area of different boys appears different in teenage.

Why do I have chest where breast area appears swollen like a girl's? Other boys do not have it.
(Common) Causes of Gynecomastia
The most common cause of apparent enlargement of of the breast tissue is the hormonal change that happens in puberty. It is important to remember that all men/boys do not have chest full of hair. Male actors like Govinda, Salman Khan, have sparse hair on chest.

Physiological gnyecomastia
occurs due to increased levels of Estrogens and decreased level of testosterone. Physiologic Gynecomastia can occur in new born babies, adolescent boys and aged men.

Usually the fat accumulation causes raised nipple, areoloa (dark skin just around the nipple), but does not cause enlargement of entire breast.

Pathological gynecomastia is due to several reasons, one of them being intake of certain medicines.

How to know if Testosterone level in blood is normal?

A simple and sure test.
If a boy masturbates than he can be sure that the levels of testosterone are normal.

Pathological gynecomastia is due to various reasons, one of them being medicines.

The natural variation among boys during upsurge of hormones in adolescents can cause lot of secret worry and fear. If your doubt weighs heavily on you, you must visit family physician. Whether
you have gynecomastia, or you are just bugged by false belief that you have gnyecomastia
can be clarified by objective assessment by family physician. The doctor may advice investigations either to rule out pathological gnynecomatia or to provide you with confirmation that you do not have gynecomastia.

Physiological Gynecomastia is seen in newborn, teenagers and the aged.

Why not hold back tears?
specially contributed by Sangita.

The Crying Effect Test..!

There was a study done where a control group of 100 people were divided into two.
50 people watched a very funny, tears-of laughter type movie.
50, watched a very sad and tears of compassion type movie.
At the end of the sessions researchers collected the "Happy Tears" and " The Sad
Tears" with eye droppers.

They found that "Happy Tears" are made up of brine... salt water and not a great deal else
However the "Sad Tears" were found to contain the very same chemicals and enzymes that are found in tumors, ulcers and other such lumps and bumps and sicknesses through out the body.

This test concluded that the body, when crying in sadness etc is literally flushing out
all of the toxic-chemicals that accumulate and are a part of the sadness /heartache experience.

Therefore if one holds back those tears, those toxic-waters will find somewhere else
to deposit themselves... and prolonged lack-of-crying-release will guarantee that the body will accumulate a huge amount of internal pollution and toxicity that should have been released through the tears....... is it any wonder that the eyes sting so much when we hold back our tears?

if it is, could you reccomend other forms of contraception as i do not feel safe just using a condom.
Also, i read recently that ibs and crohns also can cause uncomfortbale sex and pain.
i reguarly have bad discomfort and pain during and after sex.
Could you suggest any thing that could help me?
thanks a million.

Even if you have Crohns Syndrome contraceptive measures do work and sex is a pleasure. If it

pains!

No pains only gain
Pain during sex is dyspareunia.
It is not related to Crohns Disease/inflammatory bowel disease pathology.
Colitis, inflammation of the intestine results in abdominal cramping and recurring diarrhea. If you are in pain and suffering with this on those days, you may not be sexually aroused enough. This diminished sexual arousal causes decreased lubrication in the vagina and leads to pain.

Sex, has nothing to do with pain.
Sex done correctly, means shamelessly, invigorates the body. Endorphins are released along with smooth and skeletal muscle relaxation. The neuro-endocrine-immune system are not separate, but are linked closely.

Not because of coercion from the partner, but willingly when aroused you 'enjoy' sex you may find Crohns disease becoming less frequent, less irritating.

Contraceptives and Crohns Disease
Contraceptives, including emergency contraceptive pills, are effective.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or issues.

father-son-love-suicide

Anger and Love have no limits. Choose Love. Have Beautiful Life.

While a man was washing his new car, his 4 yr old son picked stone & scratched lines on the side of the car.

In anger, the man took the child's hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench.

At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father....
with painful eyes he asked 'Dad when will my fingers grow back?'

Man was so hurt and speechless. He went back to car and kicked it a lot of times.
Devastated by his own actions..... . sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches, child had written 'LOVE YOU DAD'.
The next day that man committed suicide. . .

Anger and Love have no limits, Choose the later to have a beautiful lovely life ....
Things are to be

But the problem in today's world is that

People are used and things are loved.......

Question
I was a virgin before I had sex

Sex is not painful. It is enjoyable. Always.
Dr. Ashok Koparday

Your question:
"I was a virgin before I had sex with my boyfriend. The first time we did it I was not enjoying it at all, because it hurt a lot at first then I didn't even feel anything when he was in me. I figured that was because it was my first time. The second time we had sex its hurt just going in and again I couldn't feel him. He was really big and he was going really fast. I want to know why I wasn't enjoying it. Is there something wrong with me. "

"_ _ _The first time_ _ _ it hurt a lot at first_ _ _

The second time_ __it hurt just going in_ _ _"

You are beginning with a new experience, which you believe hurts initially. Soon all the hurt will subside and your mind will be able to experience the joy.

MORE FOR YOU
Do you know that sex has nothing to do with 'pain' or 'hurt'?

Then why does it pain?
It pains because we have heard or read,
"First time it pains, sometimes there may be bleeding also. Then gradually it becomes okay". THIS IS NOT TRUE. If you believe it, as most people wrongly believe, then you do get pain.

Here the Mechanism is Explained:
When we believe it is going to pain there is fear of pain (naturally) and the vaginal opening (subconsciously) contracts (vaginismus) at the time of entry of penis. This causes pain or even bleeding.
Click to see animated picture 1 and animated picture 2
How will the pain go? When will I begin to enjoy?
Once you are accustomed and realize that it pains no more, your fear of pain is gone, then mind is free to enjoy.
It is awesome seeing a slick Mercedes Benz car moving by. What a fun?
When you have one, and begin to drive do you think initially it will be fun?
You need to know where to put the key, how to change gears and so on. Some one experienced has to teach you. You got to get accustomed and when you know, zoom you go. All fun.

Correct knowledge from experienced person is important.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE IS VERY MUCH NECESSARY TO ALL BOYS AND GIRLS BEFORE MARRIAGE.

Don't you understand that human beings have to learn almost everything?
Without learning you cannot play sports, tennis, chess and so on.
You have to study in school or college. You work in office because you have knowledge.
AMAZING BUT TRUE
Only human beings need to learn, animals do not need to learn. Human beings go to school, animals do not go to school or tuition. Human beings have to learn every thing like: sports, playing guitar or tabla, elocution and drama. Even wearing a saree has to be taught. Animals do not go to drawing classes or go for learning classical music or dance. Is it not?

why-i-love-my-mom

This is a truly BEAUTIFUL piece.

Please read this at a slow pace,
digesting every word and in leisure ... do not hurry ....this is a
treasure...!

For those lucky to still be blessed with your Mom, this is beautiful.
For those of us who aren't, this is even more beautiful. For those who
are moms, you'll love this.
MY MOTHER
The young mother set her foot on the path of life. 'Is this the long
way?' she asked.
And the guide said:
'Yes, and the way is hard and you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning.'

But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything
could be better than these years.

So she played with her children, and gathered flowers for them along
the way, and bathed them in the clear streams; and the sun shone on them
and the young Mother cried, 'Nothing will ever be lovelier than this.'
________________0_______________

Then the night came, and the storm, and the path was dark, and the
children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and
covered them with her mantle, and the children said, 'Mother, we are not
afraid,
for you are near, and no harm can come.'

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children
climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary. But at all times she
said to the children,' A little patience and we are there.' So the
children climbed, and when they reached the top they said, 'Mother, we
would not have done it without you.
'

And the mother, when she lay down at night looked up at the stars and
said, 'This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned
fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday, I gave them courage.
Today, I've given them strength'.

____________00_________

And the next day came strange clouds which darkened the earth, clouds of
war and hate and evil, and the children groped and stumbled, and the
mother said: 'Look up. Lift your eyes to the light'. And the children
looked and saw above the clouds an everlasting glory, and it guided them
beyond the darkness. And that night the Mother said, 'This is the best day of all, for I have shown my children God.'

And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and
the mother grew old and she was little and bent. But her children were
tall and strong, and walked with courage. And when the way was rough,
they lifted her, for she was as light as a feather; and at last they
came to a hill, and beyond they could see a shining road and golden
gates flung wide. And mother said, 'I have reached the end of my
journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my
children can walk alone, and their children after them.'

And the children said, 'You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates.' And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said:
'We cannot see her but she is with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence.......'

Your Mother is always with you.... She's the whisper of the leaves as
you walk down the street; she's the smell of bleach in your freshly
laundered socks; she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well.
Your Mother lives inside your laughter. And she's crystallized in every
tear drop.

She's the place you came from, your first home; and she's the map you
follow with every step you take.

She's your first love and your first heartbreak, and nothing on earth
can separate you.

Not time, not space... not even death!

Legalise homosexuality MSM:
Union Health Minister

INTERNATIONAL AIDS CONFERENCE August 7, 2008 Thursday
9 Aug 2008, 0011 hrs IST, Kounteya Sinha,TNN

MEXICO CITY:
The gay community in India, fighting for social and legal acceptance, has found a friend in no less a person than Union health minister A Ramadoss, who assured them of all help in legalising homosexuality in the country.

Addressing a 250-strong India session at the International AIDS Conference here on Thursday, he strongly campaigned for the changing the law which makes homosexuality illegal. "Section 377 of IPC, which criminalizes men who have sex with men, must go," he said, at the risk of inviting a political reaction back home.

Under the IPC, sex between two men is considered "against the order of nature". Ramadoss's comments came a day after TOI reported how men who have sex with men (MSM) were posing to be India's greatest challenge in its fight against AIDS.

National Aids Control Organization(NACO) estimates that India is home to 2.5 million MSMs of which 100,000 are at high risk of contracting HIV due to multi-partner and commercial sexual practices. Already, 15% of this community have got infected with the deadly disease.

Ramadoss said, "MSMs are our major concern. We have to contain the epidemic within this community. The number of targeted interventions specially for this community is being scaled up tremendously." The minister also called for a relook into the impending Bill to amend the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.

The Bill was moved in Parliament in 2006 by the ministry of women and child development headed by Renuka Chowdhury.

Chowdhury's Bill also drew criticism at the India session from UNAIDS chief Peter Piot, who said, "The Bill has raised concerns that it would push prostitution underground."

According to a recent report by the world's first independent commission on AIDS in Asia-Pacific, the HIV epidemic in Asia is mainly driven by men who go for paid sex. While 75 million men in Asia visit sex workers, 10 million women sell sex to these men.
