The beginning of menses is called menarche and usually a girl starts her periods between the age 12 years to 14 years. This menstrual flow of blood that occurs at monthly intervals ceases during the period called menopause. Menopause sets in a woman between age 45 years to 55 years.
Periods or menses stop when the egg released from the ovary gets fertilized by the sperm coming from the male. Thus, periods stop for a girl when she is pregnant.
