CHICAGO: At least one in four teenage girls in the US has a sexually transmitted disease, or more than 3 million teens, according to the first study of its kind in this age group.

A virus that causes cervical cancer is by far the most common sexually transmitted infection in teen girls aged 14 to 19, while the highest overall prevalence is among colored girls — nearly half the colored teens studied had at least one STD. That rate compared with 20% among both whites and Mexican-American teens, the study from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found.

Influence of Media:
In the opinion of Dr. Ashok Koparday, Medical Director of *Samadhan India, "Center for Therapy, Education and Research in Sex, Marriage and Relationships",
display of celebrities nudity (naked or breasts or lingerie) and such other sexually stimulating content reaches teenagers through media (my chemical romance teenagers) influencing their behavior. In adolescence hormones shoot up. Sexual feelings are intense as well as novel. Given ample opportunity the spark of sexual intercourse or outer course is ablaze resulting in SERIOUS side effects, namely, 1.] unwanted pregnancy, 2.] sexually transmitted diseases, 3.] heart breaks.

Example: Birthday party game for teenagers or any DJ party of teenagers (here parents are forbidden)have rocking hot teenagers. There is plenty to booze, which is symbolic of "I am grown up; I am no more a kid." attitude. Getting drunk and making other (her) drunk is followed by petting, then sex ultimately leading to pregnant teenagers, another matter of prime concern and expense in the United States.

Among girls who admitted to having sex, the rate was 40%. While some teens define sex as intercourse, other types of intimate behavior can also spread infections. For many, the numbers likely seem "overwhelming because you're talking about nearly half of the sexually experienced teens at any one time having evidence of an STD", said Margaret Blythe, an adolescent medicine specialist at Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. John Douglas, director of the CDC's division of STD prevention, said the results are the first to examine the combined national prevalence of common sexually transmitted diseases among adolescent girls. He said they likely reflect current prevalence rates.

The CDC's Dr. Kevin Fenton said given that STDs can cause infertility and cervical cancer in women, "screening, vaccination and other prevention strategies for sexually active women are among our highest public health priorities."
